Did you know that www.example.com, www.example.com/home and example.com are not the same web address? Redirecting a URL means when a user types in one address into the url bar, they will automatically be sent to another address. Redirects can be useful in the following situations:
- You've moved your site to a new domain.
- People access your site through different URLs. For example, your home page can be reached in multiple ways (http://test.com/home and http://www.test.com). Pick one of those URLs as your root destination and use redirects to send traffic from the other URLs to your preferred URL.
- You're merging two websites and you want to make sure that links to outdated URLs are redirected to the correct page.
- You removed a page and you want users to be directed to a new page
Redirecting URLs is an advanced skill. Contact your "website person" or us if you wish to do this.
